metadata.dc.description.abstracten: The present study is about a microturbine operating with biogas from a landfill. The thermodynamic cycle of operation of the microturbine, the Brayton cycle, was discussed, describing it’s mode of operation, it’s devices and it’s components. The main differences between the microturbine and a medium or large turbine were described, pointing the regeneration as an important element in the set. The aim of this study is to identify and quantify the energy losses in the microturbines and, for that, it is necessary a study on exergy, showing the definitions and performing an exergetic cycle analysis. The research is exploratory with a quantitative approach of the major parameters that influence the thermodynamic cycle. The methodology used consists in performing a thermodynamic cycle modeling, showing the equations for the rate of exergy destruction in each component and throughout the cycle. Different situations are simulated by performing the variation of parameters such as the efficiencies of the regenerator, compressor and turbine, the turbine inlet temperature and pressure ratio, using the MATLAB software and showing the results via charts and graphs, through EXCEL. The results obtained indicate where are the main losses of energy, providing a quantification of the exergy destruction in each component of the microturbine. Thus, it was possible to notice that the combustion chamber is responsible for the largest portion of exergetic losses that occur in the cycle. The exhaust gases present high exergetic availability and therefore must be used in a cogeneration system. The regenerator is of great importance to achieve greater energy efficiencies, raising the temperature in the combustion chamber by taking advantage of the thermal energy of the turbine exhaust gas. Higher turbine inlet temperatures, associated with the highest efficiencies of the regenerator, compressor and turbine led to a reduction in the exergies destroyed, obtaining greater energy efficiencies to the microturbine.
