metadata.dc.description.abstracten: The use of fossil fuel sources, such as gasoline, has been causing major environmental impacts across the planet due to the emission of CO2 that is quite harmful to nature as they retain heat in the layers of the atmosphere, unbalancing the climate and increasing the temperature. also one of those responsible for the greenhouse effect. Vehicles are one of the biggest consumers of gasoline and an alternative to reduce CO2 emissions in the environment is the search for vehicles that use clean energy sources, such as electric vehicles. This search is not only happening because combustion vehicles are more polluting than electric vehicles, but another factor that led to the search for new energy sources was the increase in the price of oil caused by its exponential scarcity. The exchange of combustion vehicles for electric vehicles becomes an excellent solution when the issue is environmental impact, but the inclusion of these vehicles will bring major self-consumption problems, which will impact the demand for electricity in the distribution system. In this work, the evaluation of these impacts was made, where the effects of the electric car in a neighborhood were simulated. For this purpose, OPENDSS software was used to simulate the distribution network of the analyzed neighborhood and MATLAB to simulate the electric vehicles connected to this distribution network. To simulate the impacts, some cases were implemented by inserting the car’s recharge into the electricity network without worrying about the charging time, including peak hours. Solutions were also proposed to make this recharge more efficient, where times that demand less energy from the distri bution system and using solar energy for vehicle charging will be chosen. A scenario was also simulated where electric vehicles charge at a time when energy demand is lower and inject energy into the grid at peak hours. These alternatives, show in the results, that in addition to using electric vehicles as a solution to reduce environmental impacts, they can also be used to help the distribution network at times when the system needs more energy.
